Africans Rising Commends the government of Kenya for advancing the borderless Africa Agenda through Visa – Free Access for All Africans and Caribbean nationals.
Africans Rising, a pan-African movement of people and organizations working for justice, peace, and dignity, commends and welcomes the decision of the government of Kenya for opening its borders to all Africans and Caribbean nationals through a visa free policy.
This bold move reflects Kenya’s commitment to the spirit of Pan-Africanism, regional integration, and the vision of a borderless Africa where freedom of movement, trade, and people-to-people connection are not hindered by artificial borders.
The announcement of the decision has arrived at such an opportune time and directly responds to long-standing calls by African citizens, civil society, and youth movements advocating for the ratification and implementation of the African Union Free Movement of Persons Protocol.
Africans rising has been on the fore front calling for the ratification of the free movement protocol and removal of visa restrictions through the flagship campaign #Borderless Africa. Recalling the petition that was issues last year by Africans rising members to the Kenyan government calling for open visa and the launch of the borderless Africa club this year in Nairobi, these continued efforts across Africa and diaspora working towards a borderless Africa demonstrate the commitment of Africans rising movement to the ratification of the free movement protocol. Further recalling the key outcomes and recommendation that were made by the African Union, Civil society and Africans on the occasion of the commemoration of the 8th Africa Integration Day convened by Africans rising signifies a continent that is ready for a borderless Africa.
Opening the borders for Caribbean’s nationals is a commendable gesture that responds directly to the call of reparations for Africans and the people of African descent.
We commend the governmnet of Kenya for following the steps of other African countries in achieving the dream of a united Africa through borderless Africa. As the Borderless Africa Campaign, we stand ready to amplify this momentum across the continent and work with governments, civil society, and citizens to push for:
- Full ratification and domestication of the Free Movement Protocol by all AU Member States.
- Policies that uphold freedom of movement as a fundamental right.
Cross-continental collaboration between Africa and the Caribbean to advance shared prosperity, unity, and solidarity.
