Africa Liberation Week 2025 Comes to a Close: A Week of Action and Solidarity
The ninth annual Africa Liberation Week (ALW) has come to an end, marking a significant milestone in the journey towards a united, prosperous, and borderless Africa. From May 19th to 25th, 900 actions and activities were carried out across 54 countries, organised by members of Africans Rising both on the continent and in the diaspora.

This year’s theme, “A Borderless Africa for All Africans,” resonated deeply with participants, who mobilised around key sub-themes including Pan-African Solidarity with conflict-affected countries, Climate and Environmental Justice, Gender Justice, and Economic Justice. Through peaceful marches, community dialogues, webinars, and public education campaigns, Africans Rising members mobilised thousands of people in support of free movement and the ratification of the AU Protocol on Free Movement .
The week-long commemoration saw diverse participation from across Africa and beyond. Participants used the ALW 2025, to raised awareness on climate issues, empowering local leaders, promote rights and democracy, and defending human rights.
As the week drew to a close, Africans Rising Movement Coordinator Hardi Yakubu, reflecting on the events, shared a message that deeply resonates with him:
“Africa is for Africans, it is not an extension of Europe, America, or Asia.”
Hardi Yakubu
“Africa must unite” he emphasised, as he joined multitudes on Sunday for a Pan-African Solidarity March in Accra, organized by Freedom Fighters, to mark African Liberation Day.
ALW 2025 has demonstrated the power of collective action in shaping Africa’s future. As we look to the future, one thing is clear: the campaign for a borderless Africa will continue to grow, driven by the determination and solidarity of Africans across the continent and beyond.
