Terms of Reference (TOR) Consultant - Trainer of Trainers (ToT) Program
Background
Africans Rising for Unity, Justice, Peace and Dignity (Africans Rising) is a Pan-African movement of people and organisations, working for justice, peace and dignity for all Africans wherever they live. The organisation provides a space for progressive African civil society leaders and groups engaged in various civic struggles to convene, connect, collaborate, share knowledge and build solidarity among people and across issues.
Objective of the Assignment
Africans Rising seeks a skilled and experienced consultant to design and deliver a Trainer of Trainers program focused on building feminist-aligned facilitation, organizing, and training skills within the Africans Rising Feminist Taskforce. The Trainer will be expected to:
- Engage the Africans Rising Feminist Taskforce in collaborative planning,
- Design a contextually relevant, inclusive, and engaging training process,
- Deliver a 3-day intensive ToT workshop,
- Support post-training strategy and implementation planning for community-level rollouts.
Scope of Work and Deliverables
The selected Trainer will be responsible for:
- Pre-Training Engagement and Planning
- Hold initial consultations with the Africans Rising Secretariat and Feminist Taskforce.
- Conduct a needs assessment and/or review existing materials or insights from the Taskforce.
- Co-design the ToT curriculum with input from the Taskforce, ensuring it reflects African feminist frameworks, movement-building approaches, and participatory methodologies.
- Training Delivery
- Facilitate a 3-day in-person ToT workshop with Taskforce members.
- Employ feminist popular education techniques and power-conscious facilitation.
- Ensure space is held for collective learning, healing, creativity, and strategy development.
- Post-Training Support
- Engage with the Taskforce to support their community-level training plans and follow-up activities.
- Provide mentorship or feedback as needed to support trainers’ confidence and impact.
- Submit a final report capturing key learnings, challenges, recommendations, and documentation of the training process.
- Assignment Start Date: Wednesday, 1st October 2025
- Exact timeline to be finalized in consultation with the Taskforce.
Required Skills and Qualifications
- Proven experience delivering Trainer of Trainers programs, especially within feminist, grassroots, or movement-building contexts.
- Strong grounding in African feminist thought, social movement theory, and political education practices.
- Excellent facilitation and participatory training design skills.
- Experience working with Pan-African or transnational feminist networks is an asset.
- Ability to work collaboratively, respectfully, and non-hierarchically with community actors and activist groups.
