[vc_row][vc_column][vc_single_image image=”15158″ img_size=”large”][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]We have followed with dismay the recent arrests of members of Senegalese civil society and the violent treatment reserved for activists like Guy Marius Sagna is degrading for Senegal. The death of the young demonstrator Ousmane Coly in Bignona marks a red line that should not be crossed. There is still time to put an end to these waves of violence by releasing all political prisoners unconditionally and by ensuring an independent commission to clarify the accusation of rape by Ousmane Sonko.

We are asking for the support of all justice-loving people, all national and international institutions, to speak out against the horrific events currently happening in Senegal. We call on the African Union to act to condemn the blunders of law enforcement and political leaders, including President Macky Sall, for the abuse of their powers in the oppression of public exercise and political developments. The AU must use its authority to intervene in the name of good governance and respect for human rights in Senegal.

We also call on the African community to use its capacities to promote pan-African solidarity in favor of democracy, justice and political stability in Senegal.

Sincerely,

Coumba Toure and Muhammed Lamin Saidykhan,
