Consultancy on Climate Justice - Gender Justice Intersectionality in Pan-African Movement Building

Duration: October 2026 – March 2027

Background

Africans Rising is rolling out a new model of Pan-African movement building. Gender Justice and Climate/Ecological Justice are two of our pillars enshrined in the Kilimanjaro Declaration 2.0. This consultancy seeks to create an intersectional model between the two pillars for a wholistic systems-based change. Recognising the disproportionate impact of climate and ecological crises on women and other marginalised communities, Africans Rising seeks to strengthen feminist approaches to climate justice movement building and support greater participation and leadership of women and grassroots communities in climate justice movements.

Africans Rising is therefore seeking an experienced consultant to support this work through research, grassroots engagement, communications capacity building and movement-building training.

Purpose of the Consultancy

The consultancy aims to contribute to stronger, more connected and feminist climate justice movements in Africa by generating knowledge, strengthening grassroots organising, building communications capacity, and developing the skills of movement leaders and trainers.

Scope of Work

1. Research on Engendering Africa’s Climate Justice Movements
Conduct research on the role, participation and leadership of women within climate justice movements in Africa, examining key opportunities, challenges, gaps and emerging practices.

2. Community Outreach and Feminist Movement Building
Organise and facilitate three (3) community outreach engagements focused on feminist movement building and climate justice. These engagements should strengthen grassroots participation, leadership, organising and collective action, while creating opportunities for dialogue, learning and connection among community and movement actors.

3. Communications and Campaigns Capacity Building
Organise and facilitate three (3) capacity-building trainings for communicators working within climate justice, feminist and social justice movements. The trainings should strengthen participants’ ability to use communications as a tool for movement building, campaigning, narrative change and mobilisation.

4. Training of Trainers on Movement Building and Campaigning
Organise and facilitate two (2) Training of Trainers (ToTs) focused on movement building and campaigning. The ToTs should strengthen the capacity of selected movement actors to build, organise and sustain movements and to share these skills within their communities and networks.
