On 23rd and 24th August 2016, Africans rose. Two hundred and seventy-two people, from 40 countries, congregated and deliberated on citizen’s responses to the structural and systematic challenges facing the African continent.
The Africans Rising Conference held in Arusha, on the 23rd and 24th August was a critical manifestation of the movement to join forces across the African continent and in the Diaspora, to call for and plot a path towards the Africa we want.
The sun was going down on a long and inspiring day as the ten Nigerian participants at the Africans Rising conference gathered under an ancient Jacaranda tree on the grounds of MS-TCDC in Arusha, Tanzania.
From the 20-25 of August 2016, Africans from across the continent and those in the Diaspora trooped on the East African Country of Tanzania to discuss the Africa Africans want.
Industrial development on the African continent, as in the rest of the world, needs to move away consumer capitalism; instead production should focus on meeting people’s needs rather than wants.
As Head of Movement your task is to build on the consensus points of Africans Rising to date and inspire the building of a Pan-African movement of the future.
