The cry is from activists from those countries who gathered in Arusha, Tanzania, in a pilot retreat programme for African Activists to allow them to reflect on their activities
“If you want to walk fast, walk alone. If you want to walk far, walk with together” is an African proverb that brings forth the notion of unity and of living in a community.
RUSHA, TANZANIA – A group of African human rights activists from across the continent today begin a groundbreaking new programme intended to re-energize them and their struggles.
“Being able to step out of that frustrating environment for a month to regroup and do some deep thinking about the challenges is something that many of us activists crave.” said Saidykhan.
Activists, human rights defenders and civil society leaders face multilevel challenges and barriers that often leave many feeling frustrated as they struggle to achieve their goals and usually, sets one of the path to burn out.
What is most needed in these situations is a chance to catch their breath, step back and take stock of their work in order to emerge re-energized to tackle their challenges in their day-to-day efforts in new ways.
