On 25 May 2017, Africans Rising launched with events in more than 40 countries. One of those countries was Germany.

Activists, human rights defenders and civil society leaders face multilevel challenges and barriers that often leave many feeling frustrated as they struggle to achieve their goals and usually, sets one of the path to burn out.
What is most needed in these situations is a chance to catch their breath, step back and take stock of their work in order to emerge re-energized to tackle their challenges in their day-to-day efforts in new ways.
In the latest incident, two leaders of the Congolese youth movement, Quatrieme Voie/Il Est Temps (The Fourth Way / It is Time) are being held by security forces without charge or cause in the capital, Kinshasa.
“We demand thatthe government of President Mugabe release Pastor Evan Mawarire immediately and unconditionally”, said Africans Rising Board Chair, Kumi Naidoo.
Africans Rising signed on the attached letter which is being despatched to the Africa Renewable Energy Initiative (AREI) Board sitting in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
Thursday, 25 May 2017 dawned like any other day everywhere on the African continent, with one minor difference, that there was in the air, considerable palpation, tension, anxiety and, energy about fulfilling a promise of the Kilimanjaro Declaration:
“Being able to step out of that frustrating environment for a month to regroup and do some deep thinking about the challenges is something that many of us activists crave.” said Saidykhan.
