We, the undersigned Civil Societies Organizations (CSOs) in this petition, are seriously concerned by the current situation of human rights violations, rule of law and the security of citizens in Tanzania
One person was killed in the western city of Tebourba and many more have been injured as violence flared up in other regions. Several security officials were also injured amid chaotic clashes.
The government alleges that civil society protests are subversive. And even some people sympathetic to NGOs have asked why they are getting involved in national politics.
Activists, human rights defenders and civil society leaders face multilevel challenges and barriers that often leave many feeling frustrated as they struggle to achieve their goals and usually, sets one of the path to burn out.
What is most needed in these situations is a chance to catch their breath, step back and take stock of their work in order to emerge re-energized to tackle their challenges in their day-to-day efforts in new ways.

Ana Taban, which is Arabic for ‘I am tired’, grew out of fatigue and frustration among young artists, with cycles of violent conflict and deprivation in South Sudan. It was formed in response to a crisis – the resurgence of fighting between government and rebel forces in July 2016.
