Terms of Reference Research Assistant

Africans Rising is looking for a Research Assistant to support the Movement Coordinator in the discharge of his duties. The movement coordinator is the head of the Secretariat of Africans Rising, which runs the day-to-day operations of the movement. The Research Assistant will perform the responsibilities as described below. 

Africans Rising is a Pan-African movement of movement and people of African descent committed to mobilizing and organizing the people for African unity, justice, peace and dignity. 

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct in-depth research on a variety of topics related to African unity, youth engagement, social justice and other pillars of the Kilimanjaro Declaration 2.0     
  • Collect, analyze, and interpret data from various sources, including surveys, reports, and online databases.
  • Prepare comprehensive research reports, briefs, and presentations for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in the development of research methodologies and data collection tools within a movement setting
  • Provide administrative support for the Movement Coordinator, including scheduling meetings, managing correspondence, and taking meeting minutes.
  • Work with the Movement Coordinator on various projects and initiatives.

Qualifications

  • Minimum Bachelor’s degree in Geography or Geoinformation Sciences (Note that the certificate is not the most important thing. Emphasis is not just on what you know, but what you can do with what you know).
  • Proficiency in the use of GIS software for spatial data analysis
  • Proficiency in data analysis and visualization software (e.g., SPSS, Excel Tableau, Power BI).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English – Bilingualism in French is a plus
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.  
  • Be abreast of political and geopolitical affairs especially those that affect the African continent.
