IN SOLIDARITY WITH MALAWI AND OTHER PARTS OF SOUTHERN AFRICA
Africans Rising for Unity, Justice, Peace & Dignity is deeply saddened by damage and destruction caused by Tropical Cyclone Freddy, which has devastated parts of Malawi and Mozambique. We send our condolences to the families of the more than 200 people who have lost their lives in the storm.
This month-long storm has brought torrential rains to the southeastern region of the continent, the equivalent of six months of rainfall in six days, and has displaced more than 19,000 people and affected more than 60,000 people in Malawi.
Africans Rising is calling on African countries, the AU and Regional Economic Communities, individuals and organisations to actively assist with the needs of our African brothers and sisters who are affected in Malawi and Mozambique, by providing humanitarian needs, relief, and rescue support. We must not always wait or depend on external support.
As a movement, we are working to develop a mechanism for solidarity support and will follow up with additional information.
